The Special Package for the 2021 Mustang is referred to as an ATS (American Touring Series). The Package consists of high quality automotive decals, low relief badges, accent stripes and “paint”. The ATS package includes interior accents with custom floor mats and minor cosmetic treatments. Custom options for the ATS also include the trunk area. An optional package includes white letter tires and an engine compartment dress kit. Unlike “paint on performance”, the ATS promotes what the standard 2021 Mustang is: an economical sports car and one of the best all-around Mustangs Ford has ever built!
The ATS orchestrates elements of classic styling cues that define the idea of what a Mustang looks like, which was established in 1964-65. The ATS package provides an affordable option for the Mustang owner to set their car apart from more expensive packages for similar cars in its category. The ATS Mustang is in a class all to itself with clear “production appeal”.
According to SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), 1 out of 3 car owners customize their automobiles. An average of $1000.00 to $3000.00 minimum is spent on customization as it relates to cosmetics and performance. Customization can be allocated by application of components from the manufacturer and or after-market resources. SEMA surveys suggest that 2 out of 3 Mustang owners customize their car and spend in the neighborhood of $3000.00-$10000.00 on cosmetic and or performance variations.
The most common question asked by prospective buyers of the Mustang is whether or not their car will be considered a classic and will its value eventually increase. The responses are mixed. Classic cars are defined over a period of time. This is, first and foremost, contributed to what impact the car itself had on its time. The suggestion that a new car can be designated as a classic, can be dictated by whether or not it is a “limited edition” which suggests that it is rare. This by no means assures its collectability. Limited Editions often have a broad definition from a marketing standpoint. Such editions are customarily produced in the factory, however, certain Dealer Installed Options (DIOs) that follow Car Manufacturer requirements and meet OEM standards are received much like a production automobile. Coupled with this, the popularity of the edition can qualify such a car not only as a limited edition automobile, but a classic! Limited Editions are not a sure thing in determining whether a car will “stand the test of time”, however, the odds improve with this distinction. Mustangs have a pedigree as it pertains to its history and place in American Culture, thus this would add to the possibility that a new Mustang with “rare options” could be considered collectible down the line. If a Mustang has a limited edition package and restrictive availability, meaning it is only accessible for a short period of time and the package can clearly convey popularity and success by meeting maximum demand during a narrow scheduled window of production, such a car could be an “Instant Classic”.
The ATS has that clear potential. Along with its distinctive look, limited availability, and faithful- ness to what makes a Mustang look like a Mustang, the ATS emulates history, showcases contemporary design, and promises to be relevant years down the road. Like many of the mustangs designs to precede it, enthusiasm for the ATS is something that can be lasting, not fleeting! As a personal commission, the production number of ATS Mustangs are determined by the orders made by customers during an authorized period of time (suggested July 1st / Independence Day Weekend to October 1st). At
the conclusion of that period, each car receives its production number in the order in which it falls with an overall production number of ATS Mustangs produced. Thus, the number of Special edition cars are determined by the buying public as opposed to a set number established by the factory and or dealer. This is referred to as a Personal Commission.
